HAMMOND, LA ? Southeastern Louisiana came from two sets to one down to defeat Sam Houston State in five, ending the Bearkats three-match Southland Conference volleyball winning streak Tuesday night.
The Lions earned the victory by a score of 18-25 27-25 20-25 25-20 15-10.
Anna Ferguson led the Bearkats with 15 kills. Haley Thomas added 11. Launa McClung totaled eight kills and Katie Phillips had seven.
Up two sets to one, the Bearkats saw their lead evaporate as Southeastern Louisiana took the lead early and held on, out-hitting the Kats 12 kills to nine in the fourth set.
The Lions continued to be hot in the fifth and deciding set, jumping out to a 7-1 lead.
Kym Loving and Megan McNamara shared setter duties, McNamara totaling 24 assists and Loving 19.
Sam Houston State returns home for its next match, hosting Nicholls State Saturday night at 7 p.m. Saturday night is “Dig for the Cure” night at Johnson Coliseum with fans have the opportunity to pledge money for cancer research for each dig the Bearkats earn during the match.
