Southland basketball on TV 33 times this season

KATY, Texas ? Southland Conference men's and women's basketball teams will play a total of 33 regionally and nationally televised games in 2008-09, the league office announced Tuesday at the Southland Conference Basketball Media Day event here at the Merrell Center in suburban Houston. Sam Houston State will be featured three times, including two on SLCTV.
The new Southland Conference Television Network will televise 16 basketball games this season, including the men's and women's semifinals, and women's championship game from the 2009 State Farm Southland Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament. The Southland Network will also carry 11 regular season matchups, including a pair of "wildcard" games during the final week of the regular season that will be selected at a later date.
"We are very pleased to announce the 2008-09 television schedule for Southland basketball," league commissioner Tom Burnett said. "As the competitive quality of our basketball continues to improve, the television opportunities also get better. The new Southland Network has proven to be an innovative way to provide our product to a large local, regional and national audience, and other networks are also seeing the value of televising Southland basketball."
In 2008-09, Southland men's basketball will have a much larger presence on the ESPN family of networks than in previous years, with four games on two of the network's main outlets, ESPN2 and ESPNU. Northwestern State will travel to Arkansas for a Dec. 27 appearance on ESPN2, also the broadcast home of the men's tournament championship game on March 15. ESPNU will feature Southeastern Louisiana's game at Minnesota on Dec. 23, and the Texas State at Lamar conference matchup on Feb. 14 will also appear on the network devoted to college telecasts.
ESPN FullCourt, the network's cable and satellite pay-per-view offering, will simulcast 10 of the Southland Network broadcasts nationally, as will ESPN360.com, the network's free broadband video service available online.
Six other networks, including Fox Sports Net South, Fox Sports Net Southwest, Cox Sports Television, the Big Ten Network, the Cowboy Sports Network (Oklahoma State) and the Texas Tech Television Network, will televise games involving Southland Conference schools. The Big Ten Network will televise Southland teams four times, while league teams will play three games on the Texas Tech Television Network and two on both Cox Sports Television and the Cowboy Sports Network. League teams have one appearance on Fox Sports South and another on Fox Sports Southwest.
