HUNTSVILLE -- Two senior high school post players -- 6-8 Kelly Lawson of Pearland and 6-9 Aaron Thompson of Burkburnett -- have inked letters-of-intent with Sam Houston State and Head Coach Bob Marlin on the first day of the 2008 fall early signing period.
Thompson averaged 13.8 points, 9.4 rebounds and 4.1 blocks as a junior, earning District 3-A "Defensive Player of the Year" and Texas Class 3A Region I "Most Valuable Player" honors on Head Coach Danny Nix's squad
Burkburnett was the Texas Class 3A state runner-up last year with a 31-7 record.
Lawson was a team leader as well for Head Coach Steve Buckelew at Pearland, earning All-District 24-5A honors on a squad that ranked among the state's top 20.
"Aaron and Kelly are two young outstanding inside players," Marlin said. "We're excited to have them as Bearkats for the next four years."
