HUNTSVILLE ? Aline Pugliesi scored with less than four minutes to play to give Lamar a 2-1 Southland Conference women's soccer victory over Sam Houston State, eliminating the Bearkats from post-season tournament play.
Sam Houston finished in seventh place with a 4-5 Southland record, one game back of Southeastern Louisiana who earned its post-season trip to Lake Charles with a 4-1 victory at Nicholls State Sunday afternoon.
The Bearkats, however, ended the year with a 9-7 overall record to clinch Sam Houston State's first winning season record in the six year history of the program.
Senior Raquel Bueno scored her 11th goal of the season and the 27th goal of her career to give Sam Houston a 1-0 lead at the 36:46 mark in the first half. The goal came on an inswinging cornerkick by Luana Miessa that found Bueno open at the far post.
Lamar tied the game on a goal by Carrie Mrazek at 55:00 in the second half.
