
Volleyball to face host SFA in Southland tournament first round

Sam Houston State will be the No. 5 seed and play No. 4 seed Stephen F. Austin State in the first round of the Southland Conference Volleyball Tournament at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Nacogdoches.
Texas State-San Marcos earned the top seed in tournament which will be played at the William R. Johnson Coliseum in Nacogdoches, Texas. The Bobcats claimed their fifth regular-season title and first since consecutive crowns in the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
Lamar is the No. 2 seed receiving a first-round bye.
Tournament host Stephen F. Austin finished in a tie with UTSA but fell to the Roadrunners in their only regular-season meeting. As a result, UTSA is slated as the No. 3 seed giving the Jacks the No. 4 seed.
As the top seed, the Bobcats will play Friday at 4 p.m. in match three,
against No. 8 seed Northwestern State.
The remaining quarterfinal matches are No. 3 seed UTSA vs. No. 6 seed McNeese State in the opening match at 11 a.m., No. 2 seed Lamar vs. No. 7 seed Nicholls State at 1:30 p.m., and No. 4 seed SFA vs. No. 5 seed Sam Houston State at 6:30 p.m.
All seven matches of the Southland Conference Volleyball Tournament are
available on SLC NOW, the conference's streaming video and audio channel
at www.southland.org. Subscriptions to view a single match are $5.95, or
all seven matches are available for $9.95.
In addition to web streaming, the championship match will be televised on
the Southland Conference Television Network. Doug Anderson, who has
handled football play-by-play on Southland TV, will call the championship
match. He will be joined by Jenny Orndorff, the Southland's Associate
Commissioner for Marketing and Promotions, and former Stephen F. Austin
volleyball student-athlete.
Ticket prices for a day session are $14 for an adult and $8 for students.
Single match seats are $7 for an adult and $5 for students. There is no
charge for Southland Conference students with a valid institutional I.D.
