Texas State-San Marcos defeated Sam Houston State 27-29 25-20 25-12 25-15 in the Southland Conference post-season volleyball tournament semifinals Saturday afternoon in Nacogdoches.

The loss ended the Bearkats' 2008 season with a 15-19 record. The Bobcats, who are the No. 1 seed in the tournament, advanced to the Southland finals Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.

Anna Ferguson and Carli Kolbe combined to lead Sam Houston State with nine kills apiece. Launa McClung added six kills.

Amy Weigle led the Bobcats with 16 kills and Jessica Weynand and Lawrencia Brown added 12 kills.

The first set was tied eight times with two lead changes. The Bearkats held the lead only once in the second and third set and the Bobcats led wire-to-wire in the fourth frame.
