Anna Ferguson, Kym Loving named volleyball Academic All-SLC

Anna Ferguson is a first team selection and Kym Loving has been named as a second team honoree on the 2008 Academic All-Southland Conference volleyball team.
The Academic All-Southland team is selected annually by vote of the league's head soccer coaches, sports information directors and academic coordinators. To be nominated a student-athlete must have minimum 3.00 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) through the semester prior to the sports' championship; completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution prior to the season in which the nomination occurs (true freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible) and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
Ferguson, a senior middle blocker from Dallas, led the Bearkats with 356 kills this season. The elementary education major who sports a 3.35 overall grade point average was a first team All-Southland selection. She produced double figure kills in 17 matches. She is a member of the Sam Houston Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Loving, a sophomore setter from Cypress, was the starting setter for Sam Houston's volleyball team that went 9-7 in Southland action to earn a No. 5 seed in the SLC post-season tournament. She averaged 8.6 assists per set. A Dean's List student, she also serves on the SHSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Four Bearkats received honorable mention honors as Academic All-Southland nominees. The quartet were sophomore middle blocker Sarah Hazlewood of Huntsville (3.90 GPA as a nutrition major); senior setter Megan McNamara of The Woodlands (3.71 GPA as biology major); sophomore middle blocker Katie Phillips of Spring (3.48 GPA as psychology major) and sophomore outside hitter Brittanie Wallace of Round Rock (3.90 GPA as a business major).
