Bearkats out pace Texas College 89-54

HUNTSVILLE, TX ? Preston Brown scored 21 points, 14 in the second half, to lead Sam Houston State to an 89-54 non-conference men's basketball victory over Texas College Tuesday at Johnson Coliseum.
The Bearkats changed gears after a sluggish first half in which they shot only .351 (13-of-37) as they took a 39-28 lead at intermission. Sam Houston shot .643 (18-of-28) in the second period, outscoring the Steers 50-26 in the final 20 minutes.
Also in double figures for Sam Houston (3-5) were Corey Allmond with 17 and Drae Murray with 12. Ashton Mitchell had seven assists and Murray posted six.
Czyz Bennett lead Texas College (1-7) with 11 points. Maurice Gay and Sadiki Guerra each added 10.
Sam Houston out-boarded Texas College 52 to 28. The Bearkats scored 29 points off the Steers' 16 turnovers and outscored Texas College 44 to 28 in the paint.
Sam Houston State will play host to another Red River Conference opponent in their next game Saturday at 7 p.m. in Johnson Coliseum.
