The View is going to be a little short this month, but that doesn't mean it will lack importance. I am going to spend this time talking to you about the Southland Conference basketball tournament.
This year's event is going to be held in Katy at the Merrell Center, March 13-16. With the large alumni base we have in Houston and especially the West Houston area, I think this will be a great opportunity for our basketball team to showcase itself to a fan base that can't get to Huntsville on a regular basis.
This move to Katy can be a very positive move for this university as we reach out to an alumni and student base that is one of the strongest we have. For this to be an ultimate win-win for the school and our fans, we are asking for your help.
As part of our deal with the Southland Conference, the schools are all required to pay $12,000 for their block of tickets to the tournament. However, the conference office is allowing us to try and recoup that money by selling tickets to the championship event.
Ticket packages are available right now for $75 for the four-day event. It is important that our fans purchase the tickets from our own ticket office. Every ticket package that we sell will help us get back as much of that $12,000 as possible.
By purchasing a ticket package from our ticket office, it will ensure you will be able to sit with other Sam Houston State fans while helping out the SHSU athletic department in the process. Tickets will be on sale until March 11.
As an added bonus, anyone who purchases a tournament ticket booklet will receive two general admission tickets to one of the remaining men's home games of your choice. The Bearkats will take on Texas State-San Marcos on March 1 and Texas-San Antonio on March 5.
If you are planning on attending the championship event, please contact our ticket office at 936-294-1729 and get your tickets now. I can't stress how important it is to our department for all of our fans to purchase from us as opposed to waiting until the tournament and buying them at the gate.
Thanks for your continued support of Bearkats athletics and hopefully we will see a lot of orange in Katy!
