NACOGDOCHES -- West Division leaders Stephen F. Austin hit a blistering 44 percent from 3-point range, knocking down eight from outside on their way to a 79-57 win over Sam Houston State on Thursday night. 

Just like they did a month ago, SFA jumped out to a big lead in the first half. The Jacks (22-3, 10-2 SLC) scored the first seven points of the game and at one point lead by as many as 15 points at 24-9.

But the Kats (19-6, 7-5 SLC) closed the half strong scoring 17 of the final 24 points to go in the break down 33-26. The run was sparked by Domas Kvedys who scored seven points down the stretch including a 3-pointer.

However, there was no second-half comeback for the Kats this time. The Jacks started the second half similar to the way the started the first, and quickly built their lead to 16.

In addition to thier ability to hit the 3, SFA also did a good job defensivly on the Kats two top players, Ryan Bright and Shamir McDaniel. Bright was limited to five points on 1-of-6 shooting, while McDaniel was held to 6 points on 2-of-9 shooting.

The Bearkats were led by Jeremy Thomas who scored 16 points. The only other Kat in double figures was Kvedys with 10. The bench for the Kats outscored the starters 32-25.

“They were hot and we didn't play good defense,” said SHSU senior forward Ryan Bright, who scored five points and had five rebounds. “Of course, our defense affects our offense. Some of our guys played well tonight, but I didn't. We're not happy about losing in this fashion.”

The Kats will stay on the road for one more, taking on Texas-Arlington Wednesday night on the Stage.
