BOZEMAN, MT -- Irina Sotnikova won at number one singles and teamed with Peta Taylor for a victory in the number one doubles pro set to provide Sam Houston State its only victories in a 6-1 non-conference women's tennis dual match with Montana State Friday evening.

Sotnikova defeated Stephanie Jasper 6-2 6-4 in singles. Sotnikova and Taylor won over Jasper and Katy Proietti 8-2 in doubles.

Patty Manzur split sets at number five with Allison Fey, falling 10-5 in the super tie-breaker after winning the first set 6-4 then dropping the second 6-4.

"We had a great performance by Irina and Peta at number one doubles, but our two and three doubles needs to start performing in matches the way they do in practice," SHSU Coach Jim Giachino said. "In singles, Irina demonstrated why she is a major force to contend with any time she steps on the court." 

On Saturday, Northern Colordao handed the Bearkats a 6-0 loss.
