CLEARWATER, FL -- The Sam Houston State softball team ended their spring break Florida trip with three consecutive victories to close out action in the South Florida Invitational Saturday and Sunday.
The Bearkats defeated Ball State 1-0, Georgia Southern 6-3 in extra innings, and George Mason 3-2. San Houston upped its season record to 13-14 with the three victories.
Casie Everitt went 3-for-4 in the 6-3 extra inning victory over Georgia Southern.
Morgan Mikulin and Sarah Parich knocked in runs to tie the 3-3 and force extra innings. Sam Houston scored three runs in the eighth for the victory, all three runs coming with two outs.
Kendra Spivey singled and Tanya Hooser got to first base on a fielder's choice.The pair scored on a fielding error, then Everitt added an insurance run with an RBI double.
Brandi Crnkovic pitched the first five innings and Mikulin took the victory in relief to up her season record in the circle to 6-6.
Amy Brown, Alex Survant, and Everitt all went 2-for-3 in the victory over George Mason. Everitt batted in two runs and the third scored on an error.
Mikulin picked up the victory in the circle, striking out five batters and walking only one in five innings. Crnkovic was credited with the save.
Sam Houston State returns to Huntsville Sunday night. The Bearkats return to Southland Conference action with a three-game series at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi next weekend.
