Lydia Gonzales named Academic All-Southland

Lydia Gonzales of Sam Houston State is one of 10 student-athletes who have been recognized for their athletic abilities and class room achievements by selection to the 2008 Capital One Academic All-Southland Conference squad.
A junior from Round Rock, Gonzales ranked second in rebounding and 13th in scoring in the Southland Conference this season. She scored in double figures in 21 games including a career high of 25 points twice. Her top rebounding performance was 18 boards against McNeese State.
In the class room, Gonzales holds a overall grade point average of 3.35 majoring in biology and history.
Members of the Academic All-Southland Conference team are selected by vote of the league's head coaches, academic coordinators, and sports information directors. To be eligible for nomination, a player must be a starter or front line reserve with a GPA of 3.00 or higher.
