Women?s Basketball signs sixth recruit

HUNTSVILLE ? Sam Houston State head women's basketball coach Brenda Nichols announced the signing of Derneccia “Lucy” Livingston of Dallas Lincoln to a national letter of intent.
Livingston, a 6-1 post, comes to Sam Houston State after helping Dallas Lincoln to the 2008 Class 4A State Championship. She averaged 7 points and 7 rebounds this season and was the starting center for the state champions. Lincoln finished 29-4 and defeated Dickinson in the state championship game.
“Lucy gives us a much needed inside presence and is a very strong interior defender,” Nichols said. “She is very athletic, she runs the floor extremely well, and she rebounds hard. And you cannot argue with her championship background. You don't come out of Dallas Lincoln and not know how to play the game. She knows how to win and comes from a program with a rich tradition. That will be extremely valuable to us as well.”
Livingston was a four-year member of the varsity squad during which Lincoln made deep playoff runs all four years, including state tournament appearances in both her freshman and senior seasons.
Livingston will unite with spring signees Micalyn Slemmons of Granbury and Therese Hager of Norway; and early signees Bre Agnew of Nacogdoches, Britni Martin of Conroe, and Mary Beth Renz of Oklahoma City as the newest Bearkats in the fall.
