Women's soccer team earns national academic honor

To earn the honor, a soccer team must produce an overall squad grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
Sam Houston State is one of only two Southland Conference teams to earn the honor. UTSA also was recognized. The Bearkats squad produced a 3.33 overall grade point average in 2009.
This is the second consecutive year for Sam Houston State to earn the NSCAA women's team academic award.
In both 2008 and 2009, Sam Houston also achieved success on the field, rolling up an 18-17-2 record with back-to-back nine-victory seasons.
This past fall the Bearkats produced their first winning record in Southland Conference, going 5-4 in league play to finish in fourth place in the standings. At the Southland Conference post-season tournament in Natchitoches, LA, the Bearkats reached the semifinals before falling 2-1 to No. 1 seed Texas State.
