
Shelby Grissett named to Southland All-Tournament team

Freshman forward Shelby Grissett of Sam Houston State was one of 11 players named to the Southland Conference Post-Season All-Tournament team Sunday.
Grissett scored the game-winning goal for the Bearkats with 11 seconds remaining in extra time as Sam Houston rallied to defeat UTSA in the tournament first round Thursday night.
Sam Houston lost to No. 1 seed Texas State 2-1 in the semifinals Friday. The Bearkats had to play the final half without Grissett after she injured her ankle.
The Fort Worth Eastern Hills product scored seven goals for Sam Houston this season, the second highest total on the 2009 Bearkat squad.
Sam Houston's young women's soccer team tied the school record for most victories in one season (9) and posted its highest Southland Conference finish and first league winning record this year. The Kats ended league regular season play with 5-4 record and were fourth in the final standings.
Sam Houston State has had a women's soccer program for seven seasons. This year's trip to the Southland Conference Post-Season Tournament was the third appearance for the Bearkats in post-season play.
