HUNTSVILLE ? Led by shortstop Hailey Wiginton and first baseman Amy Brown who both had three hits and an RBI, Sam Houston State run-ruled Southeastern Louisiana 10-2 to pick up the Bearkats' first sweep of a Southland Conference softball series Saturday afternoon at Bearkat Softball Complex.
The Kats totaled 17 hits including doubles by Wiginton, Whitney Wilson and Sarah Parich. Heather Sherrill hit a solo home run for the Lions in the first inning.
With the victory Saturday, the Bearkats up their season mark to 20-19 and stand 11-10 in the Southland Conference. Southeastern Louisiana dropped to 17-23 for the year and 5-16 in league action.
Morgan Mikulin (9-7) picked up the victory in the pitching circle, spreading four hits over six innings. Mikulin struck out six Lions. Mikulin had the win in Sam Houston's 6-1 victory on Friday and was credited with a save in the Bearkats other victory in Friday's doubleheader.
Wilson, Alex Survant and Kendra Spivey each had two hits Saturday. For the series, Sam Houston totaled 41 hits and 20 runs.
Sam Houston will travel to Texas Southern Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader in Houston.
