Brittany Brooks named Academic All-Southland

Brittany Brooks of Sam Houston State has been named as a second team selection on the 2009 Academic All-Southland Conference honor squad.
The leading scorer as a guard for the 2008-09 Bearkat women, averaged 10.7 points per game. She scored in double figures 18 times including career high 27 points in victory over McNeese State. She holds a 3.20 overall grade point average as a business major.
Brooks is a general business major who holds a 3.20 overall grade point average.
Seniors center Lydia Gonzales and guard Leasa Ailshie both were honorable mention as Academic All-Southland nominees. The pair, both health/biology majors, hold cumulative grade point averages of 3.39 and 3.00, respectively.
The all-academic teams are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance administrators from each Southland university. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition to qualify for the all-academic squad.
