Penn native Sequeena Thomas inks with Bearkats

Sequeena Thomas has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Sam Houston State women's basketball program this fall, head coach Brenda Nichols announced on Wednesday. Thomas is the Bearkats' second signee for the 2009-10 recruiting class, joining Mansfield's Clarke Davis.
“We are very excited to have Sequeena join us,” said Nichols. “We had to address our inside game and our rebounding and this signing does exactly that. Sequeena is very strong, very athletic, and can run. She knows how to score inside and she is strong on the boards, which is two areas of need for us.”
Thomas, a 6-1 forward from Parkland High School in Allentown, Pennsylvania, averaged 15.1 points and 12 rebounds as a senior while garnering 3rd Team All-State and 1st Team All-Area honors. She was also named a Lehigh Valley Conference All-Star. During her 3-year high school career, she scored 1,220 points.
Thomas played three seasons at Rockwall Heath High School in the Dallas area before moving to Parkland for her senior season. She averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds as a junior, while earning the District 10-4A Offensive Player of the Year and 1st Team All-District honors. Thomas was also a 1st Team All-Region selection by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches as a junior.
“Sequeena has demonstrated her ability in several places. She excelled in both Pennsylvania and in Dallas. She had 28 points and 15 rebounds in a game this year, and last year at Heath, she scored 39 and 37 in consecutive games. She also has extensive AAU experience and also ran track at both schools, which demonstrates the kind of athlete she is,” added Nichols.
Thomas also excels in the classroom, posting a 4.1 GPA as a senior and was a nominee for the Lehigh Valley Conference Scholar Athlete award.
