HUNTSVILLE -- Third baseman Jenna Emery hit home runs in both games as Texas State-San Marcos defeated Sam Houston State 4-0 and 12-3 to sweep a Southland Conference softball doubleheader at Bearkat Softball Complex Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats totaled seven hits in the first game and 16 in the second. Texas State-San Marcos (36-16, SLC 23-6) came into the contest with the regular season championship already clinched. Sam Houston (26-24, SLC 15-14) stands in sixth place in the SLC standings.
After the shutout in the opening game, the Bearkats got on the board in the nightcap as senior catcher Casie Everitt hit a solo home run to right field. Amy Brown and Sarah Parich singled and scored, respectively, on an RBI ground out by Alex Survant and a single by Hailey Wiginton to give SHSU three runs in the second.
In the opening game, the Bobcats jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning then added runs in the fourth and the sixth. Emory hit her solo shot in the sixth.
Hall (21-9) surrendered only one hit, to second baseman Whitney Wilson in the first inning, as she struck out five Bearkats for the victory in the pitching circle.
Brandi Crnkovic (12-12) was the loser, giving up seven hits and striking out one Bobcat.
Katie Garnett (155-5) was the winning pitcher for the Bobcats in the nightcap, spreading six hits over five innings. Morgan Mikulin (11-9) took the loss.
Sam Houston and Texas State-San Marcos will complete the three-game series with a single game at 1 p.m. Sunday.
