With the 2008-2009 athletic season officially over, we have gone in and updated the DVD store to include more than 50 games which were broadcast during the past year on the Bearkat Sports Network.
Games from football, men's and women's basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball and baseball have been added to the store and are available for purchase today.
In addition to the new items in the DVD store, we are starting a new feature on Gobearkats.com called Bearkat Classic where we will feature great games in Bearkat history.
This week's featured game is the 1994 football game against Steve McNair and Alcorn State played at Bowers Stadium. The game was televised nationally by ABC, and in front of the largest crowd in stadium history (16, 148) the Kats rolled to a 48-23 win over the 12th ranked Braves. The game was voted as the No. 8 game all-time last summer by the fans.
Fresh off of his Sports Illustrated cover appearance, McNair didn't disappoint the record crowd or the national TV audience. He completed 33-of-56 passes for 395 yards and also led the Braves with 46 yards on the ground. “Air” McNair tossed two touchdown passes and ran for one more.
But the Bearkats countered with an offensive attack of their own, gaining 511 yards of total offense, including 310 on the ground. Lester Leonard led the way with 119 yards on 19 carries with two touchdowns and Wayne Coleman had 111 yards on 18 carries and three scores.
The defense also rose to the occasion, picking off three McNair passes and recovering two other fumbles. The victory was part of a five-game winning streak to start the 1994 season for the Bearkats.
