Volleyball to scrimmage alumni Sunday

The 2009 edition of the Sam Houston State volleyball team will scrimmage a group of former Bearkat players Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Johnson Coliseum to bring the squad's preseason camp to a close.
Admission to the scrimmage is free.
Returning from past teams are Chrissy Engle, Jennifer Henrichson, Melissa Sims, Haley Thomas, Katy Travers, Brittany Williams and Cynthia Yarotsky.
The 2009 Bearkats return three starters from last year's squad that reached the semifinals of the Southland Conference post-season tournament. Back are first team All-Southland middle blocker Anna Ferguson, setter Kym Loving and outside hitter Carli Kolbe.
Other returning letter winners include Katie Phillips, Jamie Kaleh, Kim Black, Courtney Laskowski and Shamira Washington.
The 2009 Bearkats also feature an exciting group of newcomers including Camille Alfaro, Jamie Haas, Kaylee Hawkins, Michelle Miller, Becky Swann and Kelli Stewart.
Sam Houston State opens the regular season Friday, August 28 with the first day of the Comfort Suites/Sam Houston State volleyball tournament. Other teams participating in the event are Delaware State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Texas-Pan American and Southern Utah.
