“Bearkat Champions Fund – Enhancing the Dream,” an all-inclusive marketing and fundraising campaign for Sam Houston State intercollegiate athletics, kicks off this week.
Sam Houston director of athletics Bobby Williams announced the new campaign Monday. The Bearkat Champions Fund provides for scholarships, operational budgets, facility improvements and academic learning opportunities.
“The new Bearkat Champions campaign will allow Sam Houston fans to invest in our Division I future and enhance each Bearkat student-athlete's college experience,” Williams said. “A Bearkat Champion is an alum or fan who provides our student-athletes the opportunity to succeed through their investment in the program as season ticket holders and donors. The success of our athletic program will be directly related to the participation in the Bearkat Champions Fund.”
Bearkat Champions receive a return on their investment with ticket and seating benefits at Kat home sports events as well as discounts on Bearkat merchandise.
The first opportunity for fans to invest as Bearkat Champions will be the 2009 Sam Houston football season ticket drive.
Fans who purchase football ticket packages will receive substantial savings over buying single game tickets as well as priority seating and parking. Sam Houston fans may order ticket packages via the web on www.gobearkats.com, by telephone at (936) 294-1729 or in person at the Ron Mafrige Field House at 620 Bowers Blvd.
“The many fans who have supported our program in the past deserve our gratitude and, as thanks, we will honor their past participation levels,” Williams said. “However, we encourage those fans to review the new levels and upgrade their contribution to access more of the benefits and provide more support to our quality student-athletes, coaches and staff.”
The 2009 football season ticket packages include seats for six Sam Houston State games at Bowers Stadium this fall. The Bearkats open the home schedule against two top NCAA Division I FCS opponents, Western Illinois Sept. 3 and North Dakota State Sept. 12. The opener against the Fighting Leathernecks will be a Southland TV network game. Both games kickoff at 6 p.m.
A matchup with Saint Joseph's of Indiana completes the non-conference home schedule Oct. 3 at 2 p.m.
Southland Conference opponents include Nicholls Oct. 10, Northwestern State Oct. 31 and Central Arkansas Nov. 14. The Nicholls game is 2009 Sam Houston homecoming. The Northwestern State contest also will be a Southland Conference TV network telecast.
Bearkat football season ticket packages include priority seating and other benefits at levels from $250 to $2,000.
As the athletic year progresses, season ticket packages for men's and women's basketball and baseball and softball will be announced.
Bearkat Champions events will be held at various Sam Houston games during the year in addition to regularly scheduled monthly luncheons at McKenzie's Barbeque.
