Large crowd expected for Parents Weekend Saturday

A host of pregame activities plus the excitement of a duel of top NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) teams are expected to attract a large crowd to the 25th annual Sam Houston State Parents/Family Weekend game this Saturday Sept. 12.
The Bearkats will play host to North Dakota State at 6 p.m. at Bowers Stadium in a rematch of a 2007 match-up between the Kats and the Bison in Fargo, North Dakota, that was one of the biggest offensive shows in FCS history. Sam Houston and North Dakota State combined for 79 points and 909 yards total offense as the Bison score with six seconds to play for a 41-38 victory.
Both teams are expected to be factors in their league football races this year, Sam Houston in the Southland Conference and North Dakota State in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Sam Houston State has won 19 times in its 24 previous Parents/Family Weekend contests. Two of the last three years Mother Nature has played a key role in the festivities.
In 2005, the Parents/Family Weekend matchup with Missouri State was canceled due to Hurricane Rita. Last year, Hurricane Ike forced cancelation of the Sam Houston-Prairie View A&M game. Parents/Family Weekend was rescheduled for November 15 when the Kats fell in overtime to Southeastern Louisiana 30-27.
When there hasn't been a real hurricane, Parents/Family Weekend usually has provided an offensive storm on the field. The average amount of points scored in the 24 previous events has been 45.5. Nine times, Sam Houston and the Bearkats' opponent have combined to score more than 50 points. A complete listing of Parents/Family Weekend results follows this story.
Many activities are being planned to welcome Bearkat Families for Bearkat Family Weekend 2009.
These activities include: Coffee with the Administrators, Bearkat Family BBQ, Classic Car Show and Pre-game Tailgate. Following the Coffee parents are invited to attend a meeting held by the SHSU Parents' Association. During this meeting scholarship recipients for Fall 2009 will be recognized.
Scheduled for 4pm in Bowers Stadium North Lot, the Pre-Game Tailgate is an opportunity for everyone to get into the Bearkat Spirit.

Game time at Bowers Stadium for Saturday's Parents' Weekend matchup between Sam Houston and North Dakota State is 6 p.m.

Bearkat single game tickets are on sale Friday at the Sam Houston athletic ticket office in the Ron Mafrige Fieldhouse south of Bowers Stadium from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fans can also purchase tickets by phone at (936) 294-1764 or online at www.GoBearkats.com.
On game day Saturday, the Bowers Stadium ticket office on the west (press box) side of the stadium will open at 4:30 p.m.
