The Bearkat duo are the first team sweep of the weekly awards this season marking the fourth by Sam Houston in the last two seasons, the most among league teams.
Kolbe, a product of A&M Consolidated High School in College Station, averaged 4.56 kills per set leading the Kats to wins over conference rivals Stephen F. Austin and Nicholls.
Kolbe knocked down 26 kills against the Ladyjacks, tying the Southland season high for her third 20-plus kill night of her career, one short of career high. She needs just four more kills to become the 20th player in the 41-year history of Sam Houston State volleyball to reach 1,000 career kills.
Black, a home town product from Huntsville High School, led the Sam Houston defensive front line with eight blocks in the win over Stephen F. Austin and nine blocks in the win over Nicholls as the Bearkats went 2-0 for the week.
Black leads the Southland with 86 blocks on the year and ranks fourth in the league with 1.13 blocks per match.
The Sam Houston volleyball team begins a two-week Southland Conference road swing with matches at Texas State on Thursday night and UT-Arlington on Saturday.
The next home match for the Bearkats is Tuesday Oct. 28 when SHSU hosts Texas State. The 7 p.m. match at Johnson Coliseum will be "Pink Out" night at Johnson Coliseum with "Kats for the Cause" encouraging breast cancer awareness and research. The matchup with the Bobcats also will be 99 cent menu item night at Johnson Coliseum.
