Led by Briana Mason and Kendra Rowland, who each posted eight kills, UTSA rolled through Sam Houston for a 25-17 25-13 25-16 Southland Conference volleyball victory Saturday afternoon at Johnson Coliseum.
The Roadrunners (9-9, SLC 3-1) never trailed during the match. The Bearkats tied UTSA twice at 2-2 in the first set and 1-1 in the second. UTSA won the first three points of the third frame.
The Roadrunners made few mistakes, totaling 35 kills as a team with only nine errors in 102 attempts for a .255 hitting mark.
Sam Houston, however, had 24 hitting errors, six service errors, four return errors and six setting mistakes. The Bearkats, with 27 kills, two aces and four blocks, managed only a .026 hitting percentage. UTSA out-pointed Sam Houston 52-33.
Carli Kolbe led the Bearkats with eight kills. Kim Black and Camille Alfaro each added six. Kym Loving totaled 20 assists. Libero Kaylee Hawkins totaled 21 digs.
UTSA's front line combined for 13 blocks of Bearkat attempts. Briana Mason and Brittney Malloy teamed on seven of the blocks.
Sam Houston drops to 7-12 for the year and a 1-3 in Southland Conference action.
The Bearkats return to Johnson Coliseum on Wednesday night to play host to Stephen F. Austin at 7 p.m.
