The first 200 Sam Houston students wearing orange to enter Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum using their BearkatOne Cards on Thursday night, November 11 for the Bearkat volleyball match vs. Lamar each will receive a free t-shirt.
The t-shirts will be distributed to each recipient following the contest on November 11.
The match is a big one for the Kats. The top two finishers in both the Southland Conference East and West Division plus the four other teams with the best records earn berths in the post-season event.
This year, the post-season tournament will be hosted by Sam Houston State, giving the Kats extra incentive to charge into the playoffs. The Southland Conference volleyball tournament will be held at Johnson Coliseum Friday Nov. 19 through Sunday Nov. 21.
In the last 16 years, the number one seed has won the Southland tournament championship only once, meaning the league's NCAA national tournament berth is up for grabs.
Sam Houston enters the week with a 7-7 Southland Conference mark to rank No. 4 in the Southland West Division and tie the Kats for sixth place overall in the league with McNeese State.
Wins in both their final regular season matches at Johnson this week would ensure a berth in the tournament and could help the team nail down a top five seed. After hosting Lamar on Thursday, the Bearkats wind up the regular season with McNeese State on Saturday afternoon.
Central Arkansas (13-1) and UTSA (13-1) each lead their divisions and are in a battle for the No. 1 seed. Texas State (10-4) ranks second in the West followed by UT-Arlington (8-6), Sam Houston (7-7), A&M-Corpus Christi (5-9) and Stephen F. Austin (4-10).
Sam Houston ended a two-match losing streak witha 23-25 25-10 25-14 25-10 victory at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday. The Bearkats have won four of their last six matches.
