Three of the four victories in team total pins play were over nationally ranked opponents.
After falling to FDU 996-933, Sam Houston defeated No. 7 Delaware State 1,004-999, No. 10 Sacred Heart 1,044-901, No. 13 Adelphi 1,044-960 and unranked Monmouth 889-812 to run the Bearkats' overall record for the UMES event to 8-2.
"Fairleigh Dickinson had a great opening match against with three of their girls who just were hot right out of the gate," SHSU head coach Brad Hagen said. "The girls did a great job of composing themselves and started making moves on the field to run off four wins in a row finishing the day once again at 4-1."
With Saturday's performance, Sam Houston moves into Sunday's stepladder championship as the No. 4 seed.
"As the four seed, we still have a changes to play our way into the championship match," Hagen said.
Lisa MacAllister led the Bearkats Saturday with a series of 1,071, averaging 214.2 for five games.
Dayna Galganski averaged 203 and Shaina Woolbaigh posted a 199 mean.
"Today was another strong day for us and I was very proud of how the girls played the lanes and how they stepped it up," Hagen said. "We made the best of what was presented in front of us and put ourselves in a position for the title. Our original goal was to be in the top four going in to Sunday to give us a chance at the championships and we did exactly that so Im happy where we are at and looking forward to tomorrow's play even more so considering the field."
Sam Houston's overall match record for the fall now stands at 26-12.
