Clavell voted Southland men's basketball "Player of the Week"

Clavell posted a season-high 29 points to lead the 3-1 Bearkats to a 92-81 road victory over previously unbeaten Colorado State this past Saturday.
He also added nine rebounds and three steals against the Rams. The senior from Mayaguez, Puerto Rico (Florida Air Academy), was Sam Houston's second-leading scorer with 15 points in a road loss at No. 21 Texas Nov. 23.
In two games last week, Clavell averaged 22.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in 30.5 minutes per game, while making 16-of-36 shots and 12-of-15 free throws. He is averaging 19.8 points and 8.3 rebounds in four games this season.
The first team preseason All-Southland Conference selection who earned "Newcomer of the Year" honors in the league as a junior transfer last year received "Player of the Week" honors three times during the 2009-10 season. Clavell was the leading scorer and rebounder for Sam Houston's Southland championship team last year.
Clavell has scored in double figures in each of Sam Houston's four games this year, leading the team with 19.8 points per game for the season.
Sam Houston begins a four-game home stand Wednesday when the Bearkats play host to Saint Thomas at 7 p.m. at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum. The Dec. 1 game will be the first of five "Taco Bell Wednesday" games where fans can pick up special 2-for-1 ticket coupons at Taco Bell for the contests.
When the Bearkats face off with the Houston Cougars at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, in a contest to be televised regionally by the Southland Television Network, it's TDCJ Day at Johnson Coliseum with special ticket prices for Texas Department of Criminal Justice employees.
The official 2010 Southland Conference championship banner raising will highlight the Dec. 8 game with North Texas at 7 p.m. For the third time since 2000, Sam Houston will celebrate a Southland title by unveiling the championship banner in a pregame ceremony.
On Saturday, Dec. 11, it's "Kids Day" at Johnson Coliseum for the 3:30 p.m. tilt with Cleveland State. Students and children 17 years old and younger are free with one paid adult. Up to four kids will be admitted free with each adult.
