Fort Worth - Led by guard Emily Carter who scored 29 points including eight three-point baskets, TCU rolled to a 94-76 non-conference women's basketball victory over Sam Houston State at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum Sunday evening.
Four Bearkats scored in double figures. Britni Martin led Sam Houston with 19 points including three treys. Sequeena Thomas and Jaleesa Thomas each scored 13 points and Chanice Smith added 12.
The loss, Sam Houston's fourth defeat in the Kats' last five games, dropped the SHSU women to 6-6 for the season. TCU upped its season mark to 6-5.
The Horned Frogs never trailed, jumping out to a 15-2 lead in the first seven minutes. TCU built a 56-25 lead by intermission. Sam Houston outscored TCU 51-38 in the second period.
Led by Sequeena Thomas, who pulled down 12 rebounds, Sam Houston held its own on the boards. Both teams ended the game with 42 rebounds.
The Horned Frogs shot 60.7 percent from the floor, knocking down 34 of their 56 shots. Sam Houston went 26-of-75 from the field for a 34.7 shooting mean.
The Bearkats now will break for the Christmas holiday before returning to action against Texas-Pan American in Edinburg on Tuesday, December 28. Sam Houston also will take on the Texas Longhorns in Austin Sunday, January 2, before the Bearkat women begin Southland Conference action when they play host to UTSA Saturday, January 8 at 2 p.m. at Johnson Coliseum.
