
Bearkats roll past Western New Mexico 64-48

El Paso - Josten Crow and Marcus James each scored 12 points to lead Sam Houston to a 64-48 non-conference men's basketball victory over Western New Mexico in the Bearkats' second game in the Bank of the West Don Haskins night.
Lance Pevehouse and Marcus Williams also scored in double figures for the Kats, adding 11 and 10 points, respectively. The victory ended a two game losing streak for Sam Houston as the Kats upped their season mark to 7-5.
Sam Houston never trailed in the contest, jumping out to an 11-2 lead in the opening five minutes. The Kats built a 35-22 halftime lead and eventually built a 25-point lead in the second half before clearing the bench.
The Bearkat defense forced Western New Mexico into 22 turnovers, converting the miscues into 23 points. Sam Houston also limited WNMU to 29.3 percent shooting as the Mustangs hit only 17-of-58 shots.
James led Sam Houston under the boards with a season high 10 rebounds. The Kats out-boarded the Mustangs 49-32.
Sam Houston went 25-of-59 from the field for a 42.4 percent shooting night.
The Bearkats next action is a 2 p.m. contest (Mountain Time) with UTEP in the final non-conference game of the 2010-11 season for Sam Houston.
Sam Houston opens the defense of its Southland Conference championship on Sautrday, Jan. 8, with a road game encounter at UTSA. The Bearkats' first Southland home game will be a 7 p.m. tilt with UT-Arlington on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m.
