HAMMOND, La -Tatyana Postnikova, Sheridan Currie and Cally Woerner all rallied to win three set matches to power the Sam Houston State women's tennis team to a 5-2 Southland Conference victory over Southeastern Louisiana Sunday.
Nadia Dubyanskay won in straight sets at No. 5 for Sam Houston.
The victory puts the Bearkats in third place in the 2010 Southland Conference women's race with a 5-1 league record. Northwestern State and UT-Arlington lead the race, both undefeated at 5-0.
Sam Houston started the match by taking the doubles point with wins at all three doubles positions.
In singles, Postnikova def. Camille Pilon 1-6 6-3 6-2 at No. 3, Sheridan won over Nina Schmied 2-6 6-4 6-2 at No. 4, Dubyanskay won over Isabel Brito 6-3 6-2 at No. 5 and Woerner defeated Mia Hagiu 6-4 4-6 6-1 at No. 6.
No. 1 singles player Federica Denti was forced to retire in the first set after an injury. Giorgia Pozzan lost in three sets at No. 2 singles.
