Dallas Gallant named Southland "Pitcher of the Week"

Gallant threw a complete-game two-hitter on Saturday to lead Sam Houston to a 7-1 victory over McNeese State less than 24 hours after the Cowboys had run-ruled the Bearkats, 14-1, in the series opener. The junior from Trinity, Texas (Trinity), struck out six against two walks. The victory turned the series around for Sam Houston, which also won 6-3 Sunday for the series win. He gave up only one unearned run in two appearances last week. The win was his first of the season.
Junior outfielder Mark Hudson earned "Hitter of the Week" honors for the Southland the week after the UTSA series sweep.
Sam Houston plays host to Rice Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in a rematch of the Bearkats' last two NCAA Regional first round games. Prior to the contest, a special plaque will be presented to Bearkat head coach Mark Johnson in honor of his 1,000 plus career coaching victories.
