Braeden Riley named 2010 baseball MVP

Braeden Riley has been voted as 2010 Sam Houston baseball "Most Valuable Player" by a vote of team members.
Chris Andreas, Dallas Gallant and Jordan Bunch also were named as the recipient of Bearkat baseball team awards. Andreas received the team's "Hitter of the Year" award, Gallant was voted as squad "Pitcher of the Year" and Bunch received the team's "Spirit Award."
Riley, a junior second baseman, earned second team All-Southland Conference honors this year, his second season in a row to be named to the all-league team. For the second season in a row, Riley lead the Southland in total hits with 91. The second baseman posted a ,361 batting average with a team-best 18 doubles and two trriples. A starter in every game this year, Riley led the team with 26 multiple hit performances and produced multi-RBI games 11 times.
Andreas, junior designated hitter from Brenham was a first team all-league selection this year. He led the Bearkats and ranked fourth in the Southland Conference with a .376 batting average in 2010, totaling 79 hits with 15 doubles, one triple and seven home runs. He finished the season with a 26-game hitting streak, the third longest in Sam Houston State history and the sixth longest in the Southland record book. Andreas totaled 23 multiple-hit games and 11 multi-RBI performances.
Gallant, junior right-hander from Trinity, lead the 2010 Bearkats in innings pitcher with 84. He played in 17 games with 12 starts and pitched Sam Houston's only two complete games this year. Gallant also led the team in strike outs with 78, limiting oppoents to a .256 batting average.
Bunch, a sophomore infielder from Pearland, hit .240 in 18 games for the Bearkats with a pair of home runs.
