In the last few days you may have noticed a survey on the web site or gotten an e-mail seeking your input - hopefully both. We really hope you take the time to answer a few questions for us about the potential growth of our department.
I have been asked frequently about the motivation and the timing of this survey. I think the key thing to note is we began discussion about three years ago, after the third Commissioner's Cup, on ways we can improve our consistency in winning, especially in our revenue producing sports.
That was followed a year ago with the formation of the Championship Committee of important stake holders and decision makers on and off campus. That six month study resulted in a recommendation by the committee to do feasibility study on our entire department.
That study began this spring and one part of that is the survey. In addition to every head coach being interviewed by the survey group, several administrators were interviewed as well. They are looking at every aspect of the department.
Because of the environment in the NCAA right now, and the pending movement in the major conferences, this survey could be looked at solely as a tool to help move up to FBS football. While that is a component of it, this study is to look at ways to strengthen our department, whatever the future holds for us.
We are trying to gauge interest in the program and the demographics of our fan base as well as looking at our potential in other conferences as it relates to moving up in football.
The response has been tremendous. In the first few days we had received more than 2,000 responses. The survey is going to remain active for the next two weeks. It is very important you take the time to give us an honest evaluation of our department so we can make the best decision as it relates to our student athletes, coaches, university and fans.
