West was a starter for Navarro as a freshman in 2009 after earning first team all-district honors as a junior and senior at Bridge City High School.
"We are excitied to have Samantha come to us so late in the summer," Gray said. "We had to fill a void in the middle and Samantha will be a tremendous asset for us as she adjusts to the speed of the game."
West played for head coach Kristee Porter at Navarro and Becca Mathew at Bridge City. An outstanding student as well, she earned Academic All-State honors at Bridge City and was a Dean's List student in junior college.
"Getting a year of experience at Navarro and being a big blocking presence for us will be huge for our team this fall," Gray said. "We are just a little more than a week away from start of preseason camp and Samantha can be another piece in the puzzle as we seek to find a mix that can put us in contention for the title as Sam Houston hosts the Southland Conference post-season volleyball tournament at Johnson Coliseum this November."
Gray and her assistant coach Joe Lind return eight letter winners including four starters from the Bearkat squad that went 20-14 and finished as Southland Conference West Division runner-up in 2009.
Starters returning include outside hitters Carli Kolbe and Camille Alfaro, middle blocker Kim Black and libero Kaylee Hawkins.
