Ruston, La - Louisiana Tech scored two goals in the final five minutes to hand Sam Houston a 2-1 women's soccer loss Friday night at Lady Techster Field.
Freshman Tricia Mallory gave the Bearkats a 1-0 lead on a pass from Kayla Anderson in the 71st minute. Emily Edenstrom made a steal in midfield to set up the scoring play.
Olivia Lukasewich tied the contest at the 84:46 mark scoring from 15 feet out after a ball was deflected to her feet. Rachel King added the game winner four minutes later on a cross from Rebecca Spencer.
The loss drops Sam Houston to 0-3 for the season. Louisiana Tech now stands 2-1.
Louisiana Tech fired 18 shots at the Bearkat goal. Jenny Pence save eight of the attempts.
Sam Houston State continues its road swing with a 1 p.m. contest at TCU on Saturday.
Sam Houston will open its home schedule on Friday night Sept. 3 when the Bearkats play host to power house North Texas. The contest will kickoff at 7 p.m. at Pritchett Field.
Starting at 6 p.m. SHSU Student Activities will get soccer season off to a great start with the Soccer Tail Gate Party at Pritchett. There will be free McKenzie's BBQ and Vitamin Water available and students and fans are welcome to bring their own tailgate "fixings." The tailgate party will be held on upper Pritchett Field.
