
Women cross country 10th at Memphis

The Sam Houston women's cross country team finished 10th out of 32 university and junior college teams competing in the Memphis Twilight event Saturday hosted by Christian Brothers College in Memphis, Tenn.
Alyssa Dooley led the way for the Bearkats with a 50th place time of 19:05.07 on the 5K course.
Other Sam Houston finishes included Victoria Gemeny 19:10.98 (58th), Molley Farrell 19:21.45 (67th), Sara Collazos 19:28.38 (73rd), Crystal Santos 19:44.12 (83rd), Kylie Fitzgerald 19:44.50 (84th) and Kim Brooks 21:04.86 (140th).
Holly Knight of Auburn won the women's individual championship with a time of 17:05.97.
Stephen F. Austin won the women's team championship with a total time of 1:03:0.2.45.
Eastern Kentucky, Alabama-Birmingham, Auburn, Samford, Arkansas State, South Alabama, Murray State, Harding and Sam Houston rounded out the top 10.
More than 500 athletes competed in this year's races along with several unattached competitors. The race marked the Bearkats first trip to the Twilight Classic.
"We wanted to do something different this year and go to a larger meet than we typically do," cross country coach Jesse Parker said. "This is one of the largest meets in the Southeast and we're excited about having an opportunity to compete. This is our first 5K run for the women and it was a great effort."
