Volleyball hosts UTA

The Bearkats play host to UT-Arlington Thursday and then face off with Texas State Saturday in a pair of contests with Southland West Division competitors. First serve in both matches is at 7 p.m.
Coming into the weekend, Texas State stands in second place in the West Division with a 5-1 record. The Bearkats are third in the west with a 5-2 mark and UT-Arlington is fourth at 3-3.
Thursday night's contest matches two of the top three offensive players in the Southland Conference.
Sam Houston's senior outside hitter Carli Kolbe leads the Southland in total kills with 208 (an average of 3.71 per set). UTA outside hitter Tara Frantz ranks third in the league with a 3.40 kills per set scoring mean.
Other Bearkats who rank high among Southland Conference statistics leaders are setter Kym Loving who stands fourth in assists (9.63 per set) and fifth in service aces (0.34) and middle blocker Kim Black who ranks third in the league in blocks with a total of 88.
Sam Houston already has a win over defending Southland Conference champion Central Arkansas and swept both matches with SFA, winning both in Huntsville and in Nacogdoches.
The Bearkats defeated Nicholls in four sets in their last outing Saturday in Thibodaux, La.
Five other Sam Houston players are in triple digits in kills this year as Black sports 164 kills, Haley Neisler 141, Kendall Cleveland 117, Kelli Stewart 114 and Kaylee Hawkins 100.
