Arlington - Despite three Bearkats totaling double figure kills, UT-Arlington rallied for an 18-25 25-15 25-19 30-28 Southland Conference volleyball victory over Sam Houston State Thursday night at Texas Hall.
Eldhah Kaswatuka led the Mavericks with 16 kills including the final two points of the fourth and final set. UTA's victory upped the Mavs to a 9-16 record for the season and a 5-6 league mark.
Carli Kolbe led Sam Houston with 19 kills. Haley Neisler added 15 and Kim Black totaled 14 kills. The Bearkats totaled 61 kills to UTA's 52 but Sam Houston committed 37 attack errors while the Mavericks limited their attack miscues to 19 in 167 attempts.
The Bearkats dropped to 13-11 for the season and 7-4 in Southland play with the loss.
Kym Loving assisted on 51 kills and totaled 11 digs. Kolbe led the Bearkat defense with 21 digs and Kaylee Hawkins added 17.
Down two sets to one, Sam Houston had an opportunity to even the match at two sets apiece with the fourth set tied at 28-28. But Kaswatuka posted back-to-back kills to earn the Mavericks the victory.
Sam Houston continues its Southland Conference road trip taking on Southland Conference West Division leader Texas State in San Marcos on Saturday night.
