Like they have all season long, the Bearkats were the ones standing tall in the end.
Against their longtime rivals, Sam Houston pulled away late in the third quarter and rolled past Texas State 36-14 Saturday night.
With the win, Sam Houston attained what no other team in school history has been able to accomplish -- a perfect 11-0 season. With the mindset of finishing every week 1-0, the Bearkats have been able to keep opposing squads from getting the best of them.
"It just sounds amazing. We're blessed to win all 11 of our games, especially with the team that we have," Bearkats sophomore running back Tim Flanders said. "Everybody came together. It just feels together."
With a perfect season in the books, now Sam Houston can turn its attention toward the playoffs, which get under way next weekend.
As the only undefeated team in the Football Championship Subdivision, the second-ranked Bearkats expect to see their name as one of the top seeds when the playoff field is unveiled this morning.
Sam Houston can also expect to have playoff games from the comfort of Bowers Stadium.
"I think we might have home-field advantage. We'll find out tomorrow morning," Kats sophomore quarterback Brian Bell said. "Staying in Huntsville and getting those Huntsvillian people out there and getting us rolling and giving us some support, hopefully we'll have a great turnout these next couple of weeks."
