Bearkats host Dallas Christian

The Kats stand 1-5 for the season, defeating Howard Payne, then falling to Notre Dame, Mercer, South Dakota State, Niagara and the University of Texas.
One of the positives to come out of Sam Houston's rugged schedule is the stiffing brand of defense the Bearkats have shown.
Defense has yet to become a serious issue for Sam Houston, except for when Notre Dame shot lights out against the Kats in the young squad's second game of the season. Take away the Notre Dame game, where the Bearkats fell 74-41, Sam Houston opponents are averaging 57.4 points a game.
Sam Houston hardly mixes it up, playing man-to-man for the most part. Bearkat opponents, on average, are shooting less than 38 percent from the field.
The committment to defense is there.
"We've been playing good defense. We need to hit some shots," head coach Jason Hooten said after Saturday's 56-40 loss to Texas.
Sam Houston will be looking to improve offensively against the Crusaders and Thursday in their next game, another home encounter with Paul Quinn.
Konner Tucker is the only Bearkat averaging in double figures with a 10.7 average. Marcus James is scoring 8.5 points per game and Michael Holyfield adds 7.3 points.
Hillcrest Ford of Huntsville will be giving on Sam Houston State student the opportunity to win an F150 truck at the Bearkats' men's basketball game on Tuesday November 29 at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
The F150 truck is not the only prize up for grabs in the "Hillcrest Toss for A Truck" event November 29.
When the Bearkats play host to Dallas Christian in a non-conference contest that night, Aberdeen and Brook Place Apartments have added great incentives to enter including an Apple IPAD, a Tom-Tom Navigation System and a Sam Houston t-shirt.
Wing Stop is joining in the fun of the "Hillcrest Toss for a Truck" contest as well. Wing Stop will be providing a $25 gift card as a prize and also will be presenting special discount Wing Stop coupons for the section represented by the first place contestant.
Entering is easy.
Students can sign up to participate at the Hillcrest Ford booth at the Bearkat Alley Tailgate this Saturday prior to the Sam Houston versus Northwestern State football game.
Students also can register at any of the Bearkat men and women's home games at Johnson Coliseum this month. Sam Houston men's basketball tips off Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. hosting Howard Payne and the women open their regular season on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. with UT-Tyler.
Former basketball players who played in high school or college are ineligible to participate.
Tuesday November 29 a drawing will be held to pick the four contestants for the halftime bean bag toss. Registrants for the contests must be present at the game to be picked.
Closest to the target wins an Apple IPAD plus the chance to shoot the halfcourt shot to win the Ford F-150.
Second place wins the Tom-Tom Navigation System, third place an Apple IPAD and four place a Wing Stop $25 gift card and a Sam Houston T-Shirt.
