Bearkat pair sweeps volleyball honors

Kolbe and Neisler led Sam Houston to a Southland Conference home sweep of UTSA and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last Thursday and Saturday. Both victories came in five sets.
The victory over the Roadrunners ended UTSA's streaks of 12 match victories in a row and 36 consecutive set wins.
Kolbe, an outside hitter from College Station / A&M Consolidated, totaled 24 kills, 12 digs and four blocks in the win over the Roadrunners and followed up that performance with an 18-kill showing against the Islanders in another five-set thriller.
Neisler led the Sam Houston defensive unit last week that picked up two important conference wins that clinched a spot for the Bearkats in the 2011 Southland Conference Volleyball Tournament, Nov. 18-20, in Conway, Ark.
Against conference leading UTSA, Neisler tallied a match-high 10 blocks. The Flower Mound, Texas (Marcus H.S.), native recorded 16 blocks in the two matches. Neisler also had 13 kills and four digs last week.
The two victories completed Sam Houston's 2011 home schedule at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum. The Bearkats close out the regular season with road matches at Lamar and McNeese State this Thursday and Saturday.
