Sam Houston State University will have three reagular season league basketball games televised this winter as part of a 15-game Southland Conference Television Network package.
Two of the telecasts will be men's games as Sam Houston travels to Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday, January 25 and UT-Arlington visits Johnson Coliseum in Huntsville on Wednesday, February 8.
The Sam Houston women's road contest with Lamar on Saturday, February 25 also will be televised. All three telecasts will begin at 7 p.m.
The Southland Game of The Week moves from Saturday afternoons to Wednesday nights for nine of the 10 regular-season telecasts.
Among the full network schedule are nine men's basketball games, including the two semifinal games of the conference tournament, and six women's games that also include the two conference tournament semifinals as well as the tournament championship game. The men's championship game will be televised by ESPN2.
The entire Southland TV package will be carried across the Southland's network of affiliated television stations, plus online at SLC NOW. Select match-ups will also air nationwide on ESPN Full Court and ESPN3.com.
"The Southland Conference is again proud to present another great basketball broadcast schedule," league commissioner Tom Burnett said. "The Southland Network provides our institutions an excellent opportunity to show a high-quality level of basketball competition to local, regional, national and even international viewers, and we are very enthused by how well this television effort continues to be received by all involved."
As one of the nation's newest and innovative broadcast opportunities, the award-winning Southland Conference Television Network became a reality in 2008 and has broadcast more than 100 events during its first three-plus years. The network has earned a College Sports Media Award (2009) and an honorable mention (2010) at the College Sports Video Summit in Atlanta, as well as four prestigious Telly Awards in the past two years.
The network will open its basketball broadcast schedule Wednesday, Jan. 4, when the men's team from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi plays host to Lamar. The second telecast will take the crew to Conway, Ark., as the Stephen F. Austin men face Central Arkansas Jan. 11.
The first women's basketball broadcast of the season will originate from the University Center in Hammond, La., on Jan. 18, as the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions take on defending Southland Conference champion McNeese State.
Later, the men's basketball's version of the "Battle of the Piney Woods" takes place on Jan. 25, when Stephen F. Austin hosts Sam Houston State. That's followed by a visit to Northwestern State for a women's game between the Lady Demons and 2011 Women's Basketball Invitational participant Central Arkansas on Feb. 1.
Three consecutive men's games then appear on the schedule: UT Arlington at Sam Houston State (Feb. 8), UTSA at McNeese State in a rematch of the 2011 Southland Conference Tournament championship game (Feb. 15), and Texas State at Southeastern Louisiana (Feb. 22).
The only Saturday game on the Southland Conference Television Network schedule is Feb. 25, when the Lamar women's squad plays host Sam Houston State. The regular season schedule wraps up the following Wednesday with the men's teams from Nicholls State and Northwestern State Feb. 29.
The network will carry the women's and men's semifinals of the Southland Conference tournament on Thursday, March 8. The broadcast schedule concludes with the women's championship game on Friday, March 9.
A complete list of network affiliates will be available on the Southland's official web page - www.southland.org/television - in January.
All 12 Southland men's basketball teams will also be participating in the 2012 Sears BracketBusters event, and these games may attract television coverage on the ESPN family of networks.
