Sam Houston State University offensive coordinator Bob DeBesse and offensive line coach Derek Warehime are leaving the Bearkat staff to join Bob Davie's first-year staff at the University of New Mexico.
Both coaches will complete the season with the Bearkats as Sam Houston takes on North Dakota State in the NCAA Division I national championship finals Saturday, Jan. 7, at 12 noon at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco.
"Bob and Derek have done an excellent job for us the past two years. We wish them well in their new jobs," Sam Houston head football coach Willie Fritz said. "This is a compliment to the quality of our coaching staff. You hate to lose two great coaches but this is a great opportunity for them.
"Much of the credit for our success this season goes to the tremendous job the staff has done preparing the team each week and making adjustments during the game."
DeBesse and Warehime joined the Bearkat staff in January, 2009. The Bearkat offense ranks high in NCAA and Southland Conference statistics this year including national standings of first in scoring offense (39.1 points per game), fourth in rushing (267.4) and 21st in total offense (421.6).
