
Great Bearkat Shootout Returns in 2011

One sharp-shooting Sam Houston State student will win a year's apartment lease for the 2011-12 school year and as many as 800 participants will take home a prize in the second annual "Great Bearkat Shootout Presented by The Grove" during the final two men's home basketball games of the 2011 season.
The Grove, which opened last fall, features luxury off-campus living with private bedroom suites and a clubhouse loaded with amenities. The Grove is located at 2101 Sycamore Avenue. The Grove's telephone number is 936 291-0324 and the website is www.gogrove.com .
The "Shootout" first round will be held after the SHSU-Northwestern State game on Wednesday, February 23. That evening the field will be whittled down to two finalists for the SHSU-Texas State home finale Saturday March 5 at Johnson Coliseum. Tip-off for both games is 7 p.m.
The contest begins February 23 as soon as the final buzzer sounds to end the game. Each student wishing to compete will come onto the Johnson Coliseum floor to shoot free throws until they miss or make as many five in a row.
The first 250 students to sink a free throw will receive a "Great Bearkat Shootout Presented by The Grove" t-shirt. Everyone competing and filling out an entry sheet upon exiting will win a prize.
Official Rules for the Great Bearkat Shootout
1. Must be an enrolled student at SHSU.
2. Must have an activated BearkatOne Card.
3. Entry form must be completely filled out.
4. No hard sole shoes (dress shoes, boots, etc.)
5. Student Athletes may compete but are not eligible for the grand prize.
6. Year's free rent will be for an individual lease in 3 bedroom apartment.
7. Year's free rent will start August 14th 2011 to July 31st 2012.
8. Winner will have to pay $100 application fee.
9. Winner will have to complete an application for residency.
10. Winner will need to have cosigner complete application addendum and qualify based on the apartment complex's credit specifications.
11. Winner must comply with all terms and conditions in the lease including responsibility for any utility overages, damage charges, pet fee and any other fines as specified.
12. The grand prize is non-transferable.
How the "Shootout" works
1. Post game you will remain in your seat.
2. When the announcer says, you may make your way to the designated sections.
3. Fill out entry form after shooting.
4. You will shoot free throws until you miss.
a. Miss: claim your consolation prize and exit the building
b. Make 1-4: claim your prize and exit the building
c. Make 5: you qualify for Round 2; receive Round 2 info packet, claim your prize, and exit the building.
