Volleyball sparkles in spring event

The Bearkat volleyball team was two points away from going through their home opening spring tournament unbeaten, losing only one set the entire afternoon on Friday at Johnson Coliseum.
Sam Houston defeated Trinity Valley Community College 25-14, 25-14; split with Blinn College 25-27 & 18-15 (due to time constraints); then defeated Temple College 25-9, 25-18; Houston Baptist 25-21 and 20-19, and Wharton County Junior College, 25-14 and 25-14.
The 9-1 record in sets gave the team a strong start to their spring practice season.
Kim Black and Carli Kolbe led the Kats. Black posted 17 Kills, hitting .432 with 29 digs and 18 blocks. Kolbe had 34 kills and hit .397, with 29 digs.
Haley Neisler was credited with 16 blocks.
Kaylee Hawkins hit .365 on the right side with 30 kills and 17 digs. Kym Loving had 67 assists and 15 digs. Courtney Laskowski played well setting, and digging, as well as Lauren Bohlen had 1.0 Blocks/set.
Camille Alfaro, Jamie Haas & Jamie Kaleh passed well and played great defense.
The Bearkats will next compete in the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi tournament on April 2nd.
