Aggies win 10-1

College Station - Totaling 10 runs on 10 hits, No. 22 Texas A&M run-ruled the Sam Houston softball team in a non-conference contest Wednesday night.

The Aggies jumped on the Kats early, scoring four runs in both the first and second innings. Left fielder Kelsey Spittler brought in three runs with a first inning double. Third baseman Amber Garza hit a two-run single in the second.

First baseman Rhianon Kliesing blasted a two-run homer to center field to give the Aggies a 10-0 lead after three innings.

Courtney Schoeneman was the losing pitcher for Sam Houston, giving up eight hits and eight runs to the 14 batters she faced. Cecilia Castillo took over in the circle in the second inning.

Shortstop Hailey Wiginton kept the Aggies from racking up their 12th shutout of the season with a solo home run to right field in the top of the fifth inning.

Wigington led the Bearkats at the plate, going 2-for-3. Alyssa Coggins, Alex Survant and Erin Burford also picked up hits for Sam Houston.

Sam Houston drops to 12-20 with the loss. Texas A&M, ranked No. 22 in the nation, now stands 27-7. The Aggies extended their current winning streak to six games and have won 13 of their last 14 contests.

Following the Texas A&M non-conference game, Sam Houston will play host to Northwestern State in a Southland Conference weekend series at the Bearkat Softball Complex.
