Deveney Wells-Gibson and Cherise "Cece" Coleman have signed letters-of-intent to attend Sam Houston State University and play volleyball for head coach Brenda Gray.
Wells-Gibson is a 5-10 outside hitter from San Antonio Churchill while Coleman is a 5-11 middle blocker from El Campo.
"We are extremely excited to add these quality student-athletes to our program," head coach Brenda Gray said. "Not only will they immediately make our team more competitive on the court, they also bring a lot to the table with their academics and personalities."
Wells-Gibson helped lead Churchill to the area playoffs where the Chargers lost to eventual State semifinalist Corpus Christi King. She totaled 422 kills, 568 digs, 60 aces and 25 blocks as a senior.
Wells-Gibson was named Texas Class 5A All-State, District 26-5A first-team All-District, San Antonio All-Area Super Team and was a two-time all-tournament selection. She will also be playing in the TGCA 4A-5A All-Star Game for in July. She has played for Alamo Volleyball Club the past eight years. Wells-Gibson was named to the Academic All-District and Academic All-State teams.
"Deveney is a very polished player," Gray said. "She has played at a high level of club and high school volleyball for many years. She knows the game extremely well, sees the court well, and possesses superb ball control. I look forward to seeing what she will add to our program, as early as this fall."
Coleman tallied 142 kills, 102 digs, 26 solo blocks and 33 block assists as a senior at El Campo. She was named 23-4A first-team All-District. She has played for Texstar Volleyball Club for the past two years. Coleman received both Academic All-District and Academic All-State recognition. Coleman was a multi-sport athlete, also competing in basketball, track, and cross country.
"Cece is a great athlete," Coach Gray said. "She is so quick laterally and also possesses a special work ethic. She has a ton of potential, and she will only get better once she arrives on campus."
