And if that's not enough to make the 2011 Orange-White clash exciting, there's all kinds of extra events planned for the contest when the game brings spring drills to an end on Thursday, April 14 at 7 p.m. on the field at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium.
"This has been an exciting spring for the football team," Sam Houston head coach Willie Fritz said. "We feel like the program is heading in the right direction and we want the fans and students to get excited too. We're looking forward to making the Orange-White game an event for everyone."
Just like at normal Saturday games, there will be special activities in the tail-gate area north of the Bowers Stadium scoreboard.
Attractions include free food for students, the ROTC rock wall, 40-yard dash and punt, pass and kick competitions.
Sam Houston State fraternities and sororities are involved and prizes in the punt, pass and kick contests include a special sidelines pass at the season-opening game for 2011 in September.
Seating at the game will be limited to the west side (press box) stands. The Sam Houston band and cheerleading groups will be present to add to the excitement.
Following the game, there were be a special on-field autograph session for youngsters with the Sam Houston football players.
The Bearkats return 46 lettermen including 22 starters from last year's young team that won six of its final nine games and tied for third place in the Southland Conference.
The Bearkats will play six home games at Bowers Stadium in 2011 plus the "Battle of the Piney Woods" with SFA at Reliant Stadium in Houston. Now on sale, packages for new season ticket holders and Bearkat Champions are $275 per seat. The cost includes a chairback seat, tax deduction, parking pass and a Bearkat football "Special Event" invitation.
Bleacher reserved season ticket holders will pay $100 for their seven-game season ticket.
